Volunteer Spotlight: Sue

unnamed

During Volunteer Appreciation Month, all of us at Yes, You Can Dance! would like to acknowledge a few of the MANY incredible volunteers that make our dance programming not only a success, but a reality!

Meet Sue! It was at the Pittsburgh Dancesport Challenge in August of 2012 when Sue first saw the Yes, You Can Dance! Special Needs Ballroom Performance Team, and it was love at first sight! In her words, “I knew that I had to become a part of this organization.” Since December of 2012, Sue’s  Sunday afternoons have been spent mentoring Special Needs Ballroom classes and rehearsing with the Performance Team (Sue is pictured above with her Performance Team dance partner, Lucy). In Sue’s words, “I love to dance, and to be able to share that love with others who might not otherwise have the opportunity, but who also love to dance, is a gift, a blessing, an absolute delight!”

Sue is also a yoga instructor, and volunteers teaching a yoga class at Our Clubhouse (formerly Gilda’s of Western Pennsylvania), a nonprofit providing comfort, care and hope to those touched by cancer. In response to her volunteering efforts, Sue states, “Volunteering might seem as something one does for others, but the secret is that whatever you give of yourself, you will get back tenfold… and more! Being a part of Yes, You Can Dance! has increased my circle of friends, opened my heart, and brings joy into my life.”

It is extremely rare that Sue needs to miss a Special Needs Ballroom class during the session, so we’d like to thank her for her dedication and commitment, and for bringing dance and joy into the lives of our students!
