Volunteer Spotlight: Molly

17259_283123772728_4920848_nHere at Yes, You Can Dance! EVERY month is Volunteer Appreciation Month. Therefore each month we will be spotlighting one of our wonderful volunteers (as well as one of our wonderful students).

Meet Molly, who began dancing at age 6 and grew up as a ballet dancer. Molly attended the University of Oklahoma to major in Ballet Performance and after some time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Sierra Leone, Molly started a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Pittsburgh. It was here that Molly was introduced to Yes You Can Dance!, and the rest is history as Molly has been a dedicated Multiple Sclerosis Ballroom Program Volunteer Dance Mentor since the creation of the program last year!

In regards to her MS Ballroom mentoring Molly states, “Students giggle with delight after discovering that they have learned the basic steps of dance style, or that they are able to dance moving backwards without fear of falling. Even the music alone seems to elicit beaming smiles. These moments have come to define my experience in Pittsburgh thus far! I’m excited to continue into my third session volunteering for the Multiple Sclerosis Ballroom Program, and hope to integrate some of what I’ve learned into my physical therapy practice once I graduate!”
