Dancers build balance and coordination, increase muscle strength and endurance, and gain flexibility.  When we dance, we align our bodies, follow set movement patterns and are more aware of ourselves in relation to our surroundings, which involves fine and gross motor control.

Dancing also has many other benefits, such as the social interaction that comes from ballroom dancing with a partner.  Our  volunteers and students get to know people that they would never come in contact with under other circumstances.   They learn new skills in an accepting, fun-filled and relaxed environment, which  gives our dancers the confidence to dance anywhere.

While dance is not therapy, many of our returning students and their families tell us that they notice an improvement in their physical and emotional well-being that they attribute to participating in weekly lessons.

You are welcome to bring a partner to any of our classes, but it is not required.  We have wonderful Volunteer Dance Partners who have been screened and trained and they can’t wait to dance with you!

We are so glad that you asked!  Volunteer Dance Partners are essential to our program.  Our volunteers are students, homemakers, CEO’s, retirees and everything in between.  Some are current or former dancers; some think they have two left feet!  What they share is a sensitivity and desire to help people with special needs and/or a physical disability while having fun themselves.  They also share a willingness to commit to somewhat regular attendance in a given session (we understand that life gets busy and things come up).  To get started as a Volunteer Dance Partner, please click here.

We would love to hear from you! Feel free to call our Program and Administrative Coordinator, Lauren Sisco, at 412-341-1286 or email us at

We can’t wait to see you or your dancer in class, but we ask that you please print and fill out our Dancer Application first. Please return it with your payment to Yes, You Can Dance!, 666 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.  You will receive a confirmation email letting you know that you or your dancer is registered.

Feel free to call us at the Yes, You Can Dance! office at 412-341-1286 to ask questions or discuss any concerns you may have.

No problem!  We do not require any previous dance experience for our students or our volunteers. You will be learning together.  The only things that you need are: the stamina to dance for an hour, a desire to dance, and a smile!

Our instructors and volunteers are here to support you and make sure that you have fun.  If you have any balance or coordination challenges, we will work with you to adapt your approach to the class exercises. This could mean holding hands with your partner, or staying seated for a portion of the class. Whatever works for you, we will do our best to make it happen!

Please visit the calendar for the schedule of upcoming classes.

There are so many ways that you can help us transform even more lives through dance:

We offer social dance classes for individuals with disabilities, special needs, and chronic illnesses. These classes range in level from beginner to advanced. You will be paired with a volunteer dance partner who will guide you through the steps and assist you throughout the class.
